In these changing times many employers are dramatically changing or even dropping employee health policies.  Many self employed people are now turning to Health Insurance Savings Accounts and more and more employers are beginning to offer this type of coverage/accounts to their employees.

This type of insurance makes employees and their families more financially responsible for their medical decisions.  Under this plan the Health Savings Account is coupled with a high deductible insurance plan where employees must pay their own deductible, usually $1050 for individuals or $2100 for families.  The Health Savings Account contributions are tax deductible and withdrawals come out tax free if used for qualified medical expenses.  Employees can stash pre tax dollars into the account that grows tax free, unused funds roll over at years end and employees can take the money with them if they leave their job.  Employers may choose to contribute to this account.
